Which One Does Your Dog Actually Need?
One of the most common questions we get is simple: “Which service does my dog actually need?” It’s a fair question — the two services can look similar on paper, but they’re built for different situations. Here’s how to tell them apart, and how to choose confidently next time you book.
What’s the Difference?
Bath & Brush is the lighter option: a wash, conditioning, brush-out, and blow dry. No haircut, no styling — just a thorough clean and fluff.
Full Groom includes everything in a Bath & Brush, plus a haircut and styling to breed standard or your preferred look, along with a more thorough brush-out and de-matting pass beforehand. It’s the complete service.
When a Bath & Brush Is the Right Call
- Your dog was groomed recently and just needs a refresh, not a fresh cut
- Coat length is already where you want it and doesn’t need trimming yet
- Your dog is due for a clean-up between Full Grooms — most pet parents book a Bath & Brush every 3–4 weeks alongside a Full Groom every 6–8 weeks
- Your dog has a short coat breed that doesn’t require regular haircuts (though nail trims and baths are still important)
- You want a lower-stress, quicker appointment — Bath & Brush is typically faster than a Full Groom
When a Full Groom Is the Right Call
- Coat is getting long, shaggy, or unruly and needs trimming or shaping
- It’s been 6–8 weeks (or more) since the last haircut
- There’s noticeable matting that needs to be addressed with proper de-matting or a shave-down
- You want breed-standard styling — for example, a Poodle or Schnauzer cut that requires scissor work, not just a bath
- It’s a seasonal reset — many pet parents book a Full Groom heading into spring or before a big seasonal coat change
A Simple Way to Decide
Ask yourself: does my dog need a haircut, or just a clean-up?
If the coat length and shape are already fine and your dog just needs to be clean and fresh, Bath & Brush covers it. If the coat has grown out, is getting unruly, or needs shaping, it’s time for a Full Groom.
Still not sure? That’s completely normal — coat growth varies a lot by breed and individual dog. When you book, just tell us how long it’s been since the last groom and what you’re hoping for, and we’ll recommend the right service for where your dog is at.
A Note on Cost
Bath & Brush is priced lower than a Full Groom because it’s a shorter, lighter service — but skipping Full Grooms for too long can sometimes mean more time (and cost) later if matting sets in and requires extra de-matting work. Staying on a regular rhythm, whichever combination fits your dog, tends to be both the most comfortable option for them and the most cost-effective over time.
